GM diet aka General Motors Diet

WEIGHT LOSS DIET

The program was developed in conjunction with the grant from U.S. Department of agriculture and their Food & Drug Administration. It was field tested at the John Hopkins Research Center and was approved by the Board of Directors of General Motor Corporation at a general meeting on August 15, 1995.

It is management’s intention to facilitate a welfare and fitness program for everyone. This program is designed for a target weight loss of 5 to 6 Kgs per week.

It will also improve your attitude and emotions because of its systematic cleansing effects.

The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the foods eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in calorific value.

This plan can be used as often as you like without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter by at least 10 pounds. You will have an abundance of Energy and an improved digestion.

DURING THESE SEVEN DAYS YOU MUST DRINK 10 GLASSES OF WATER EACH DAY.

Day One:

All fruits except bananas: Your first day will consist of all fruits you want. It is suggested you consume lots of melons the first day, especially water melons.

Day Two:

All vegetables: You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the raw and cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit of the amount or type. Avoid Oil and coconut while cooking vegetables. Have a large boiled potato for breakfast.

Day Three:

Any mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice:  Any amount, any quantity. No bananas and no potatoes today.

Day Four:

Bananas and Milk: today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. You can also have one bowl of vegetable soup.

Day Five:

Today is a feast day: You will eat 1 cup of rice. You also have to eat six whole tomatoes. Drink 13 glasses of water today to cleanse your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing.

Day Six:

Today is another all Vegetables day. You may eat 1 cup of rice today. Eat all vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your hearts content.

Day Seven:

Today your food intake will consist of 1 cup of rice, fruit juices and all the vegetables you care to consume.

________________________________________

Tomorrow Morning you will be five to eight Kgs lighter than 1 week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. Repeat this program as often as you like. However it is suggested that you rest for three days before every repetition.

You have your system under control now and it will thank you for all the purging and cleansing you just gave it. Even more that a diet programs it is good to follow this diet once in a while to clean your digestive system and remove toxic substances that have accumulated in the system.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

The most important element of the program is 10 tall glasses of water a day. You can also flavour the water with some lemon to make the drinking easier.

While on program take only black coffee.

Never more that 1 teaspoon of oil. Preferably do not use oil because of high calorific content. No fruit juices before day seven.

Here is what happens to your body while you are on this program and how and why it works.

Day One: you are preparing your system for upcoming program. Your only source of nutrition is fresh fruits. Fruits are nature’s perfect food. They provide everything you can possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.

Day two: Starts with mix of complex carbohydrates in the form of boiled potato. This is taken in the morning to provide energy and balance. The rest of day two consists of vegetables, which are virtually calorie free and provide essential nutrients and fibers.

Day three eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from fruits. Your system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds.

Day four bananas and milk sound the least desirable. Today is the day you can have coffee with milk. You are in for a surprise. You probably will not be able to eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and sodium you may have missed in last three days. You will experience a definite loss of desire for sweets and you will be surprised how easy this day will go.

Day five rice and tomatoes: The rice is for the carbohydrates and the tomatoes are for the digestion and the fiber. Lots and Lots of water purify your system. You should notice colorless urine today. Do not feel you have to eat 1 cup of rice, you may eat less. But you must eat the six tomatoes.

Day six is similar to five. Vitamins and fiber from vegetables and carbohydrates from the rice. By now your system is in a total weigh loss inclination. There should be noticeable difference in the way you look today compared to day one.

You may celebrate on day seven with Champaign. You may also have white wine instead of Champaign but in all practical programs and in all surveys done to measure success of the program, General Motors employees have always preferred Champaign to white wine.

More than 1 cup of coffee with milk is especially forbidden. No oil either. Milk and oil add empty calories to your diet. Avid coffee lovers can console themselves with black coffee.

However after the first week, it will help your digestion and settle your stomach. The key thing to remember is that you are not hungry at any time when dieting. The secret of this program is that you should never be hungry. If it is a vegetable day, eat as much vegetables that you are never hungry. If it is a fruits day, eat so much fruits that you are never hungry. You may be bored of eating vegetables all day, you should not be hungry. You can take any amount of General Motors wonder soup on any day.

WONDER SOUP

The following soup is intended as supplement to your diet. It can be eaten anytime of day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to drink

large quantities of this soup:

Water

Large Onions

Green Peppers

Whole tomatoes

Cabbage

Bunch celery

GSAP-General Safety Awareness Program.

I had the chance to attend the company sponsored fire and safety program code named, GSAP. General Safety Awareness Program.

It was a good class and the trainer demonstrated the details of CPR and how to attack fire during emergency situations. The trainer was so full of energy that he made some people jump from their seat, with his shouting. (especially ladies) :)

Let me reiterate on the things that he mentioned for everyone’s good

Wear the helmet.

OOPS! How can I wear in the heat of Chennai?. I know that many of you must be thinking the same.

Better wear it and save the top of your body.(even though you are utilizing less than 10% power of it. ) I dont need to elaborate on this much. If I have to do that, either I am talking to mentally retarded adults or to little children who needs to be taught each and everything.

Wear the seatbelt.

I know that whenever people say about wearing helmet, the people who come in “CAR” will look with contempt at people coming in bike without helmet, and say in their minds….. ” See , I told you – you guys have to wear it”. Seldom they remember that they should wear their seatbelt while in the car.

Okay, now we have an excuse for not putting on the seatbelt as have for not wearing a helmet. ” Why should I bother?. I am riding in the city traffic where bullock carts and pedestrians move faster than an AUDI car. “.

YOU MUST since, even if you are not having enough speed, the person coming behind will be having enough speed to kick your ass from your bucket seat.  :)

This is a good point to remember as I also thought that seatbelts are worthless when driving at low speeds. Thanks to the GSAP program.

Fire safety
In case of fire, close all the windows and doors to deprive the fire from getting O2 and thereby kill itself

If a fire starts, break the alarm button box in your floor and make sure that everyone is informed via the alarm. (We have the same thing behind a glass panel near to the door like a green one. It seems that we should break the glass panel before we can press the button.)

If smoke spreads, take out a cotton towel or similar cotton material and cover your face (nose and mouth) with it. Get out of there asap.

If you are trained to be a rescue person, check every nook and cornor of the floor. Make sure that the comfort rooms are not left behind from the checklist.

ICE

This is one concept I have heard of before and I would like to add in some more information I grabbed from the net to this one.

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn’t know whom to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this “ICE” (In Case of Emergency) Campaign

The concept of “ICE” is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, a ll you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name “ICE” ( In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn’t know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as “ICE.”

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference!

Let’s spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!

Let everybody know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one’s mind at rest .
Remember — ICE will speak for you, when you are not able to….

Why don’t you go get a job?

The most harrowing aspect of my childhood trips to India – other than learning how to squat on the “Indian-style” toilets in my grandfather’s Old Delhi compound – was coming face to face with poverty. Riding around Delhi in the backseat of my uncle’s Fiat, I would dread long stops at the crowded traffic lights, turning my face the other way and pretending not to hear the rap-tap-tap on the window or see the glistening brown eyes of that little girl with her hand outstretched. The adults never seemed to notice much, and the few persistent beggars that managed to incite a response would hear the familiar admonishing refrain of “chall. hatt yahan se. kuch kaam kyun nahi karta?” There’s little sympathy for beggars in a family of hard-nosed baniyas who have toiled for generations to amass the wealth they enjoy today. It is difficult for them to understand why beggars don’t get off the streets and find steady work instead. From our perspective, beggars seem like misguided, lazy people who haven’t tried hard enough to make something of themselves. Science would, however, suggest otherwise.

Neuroscience research conducted on children who have been raised in poverty has shown that the stress of a poor childhood has permanent affects on the brain. More specifically, scientists are learning that the working memories of poorer children, especially those brought up in dense urban populations, have smaller capacities than those of their middle- and upper-class counterparts. What this means is that these children will have a harder time remembering things like long numbers or names of state capitals in school, be less equipped to “mug up” for the brutal exams and, as a result, fair poorer in job interviews, even if they are able to actually go to school and get job interviews in the first place.

The implications are obvious – there are explanations beyond laziness for why the poor stay poor for generations. It’s perhaps not fair to blame them for their plight. So, next time you tell a young beggar to go get a job, give him a rupee or two along with your advice to take the edge off the stress and make it a little more likely that the kid will have a chance to leave the slums.

user roles in wordpress

As a new wordpress blogger, you may be confused of the user roles that are in the dashboard administrative section of the wordpress blog.

Here is the excerpt as from the wordpress support site

There are four roles: Administrator, Editor, Author, and Contributor.

Administrator

An administrator can do everything. Complete power over posts/pages, comments, settings, theme choice, import, users – the whole shebang. Nothing is off-limits, including deleting the entire blog.

So be careful in giving this away to “anyone”

Editor

An editor can publish, edit, and delete any posts/pages, moderate comments, manage categories, manage tags, manage links and upload files.

Not that any user can delete any posts. So this one is also like a moderator role

Author

An author can edit, publish and delete their posts and they can upload files.

You may want to give this to most of the authorized users.

Contributor

A contributor can edit their posts but cannot publish.

Just a dumppppp user 🙂

Advice

Be careful what roles you give people, especially if you want them to be an Editor or Administrator.

how to add favicon to the address bar

As per wikipedia

A favicon (short for favorites icon), also known as a website icon, shortcut icon, url icon, or bookmark icon is a 16×16 pixel square icon associated with a particular website.

Favicon is always stored in the name favicon.ico and it is included in the header of every page so that it will be displayed along the address bar.

Steps to create a favicon

1) Select the image that you want to be the favicon

2)Create the 16*16 image from the selected image and save it as “favicon.ico.

3)Upload to the server and for displaying it add the following code in the header

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://yoursitename.com/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon"/>
<link rel="icon" href="http://yoursitename.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-ico"/>

4) For including in wordpress, edit the “header.php” file in the theme folder that you are currently using.d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);

blogging in malayalam

I started this blog and decided to put in a malayalam blogging section in this one.  So inorder to start writing in malayalam, I had to do compose in malayalam.  I knew that there is a software which allows to write in “manglish” which will convert the english directly to malayalam. However my search for it ended at the google transliteration software.

http://www.google.com/transliterate/indic/Malayalam

What we have to do is

1) write the content in the google Transliteration software.

2) then copy-paste the same to the post.

I did the same, but was presented with garbled characters on the post. To be more specific, the characters were not displayed in malayalam, but instead a lot of I mean, a lot of question marks were at its place.  So I started my hunt again in my trusted friend, google. After a long search, I was able to find that the reason for this is due to the encoding used. So I tried changing the encoding format of my brower(firefox). View>Character Encoding.

Tried various encodings to no good. So again after an extensive search, I found that the mysql DB is the culprit. The trouble occured due to the fact that the default collation for the mysql db is latin1. So I have to change the collation to utf-8 encoding which is supposed to support the indic laguages(ie including malayalam). Instead of doing each of the tables manually using phpmyadmin, I used the following php code snippet to change the collation.

Use the below php code to make the character set of mysql db to be utf8_general_ci

<?php
$dbname = ‘dbname’;
mysql_connect(‘127.0.0.1’, ‘username’, ‘pass’);
mysql_query(“ALTER DATABASE `$dbname` DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci”);
$res = mysql_query(“SHOW TABLES FROM `$dbname`”);
while($row = mysql_fetch_row($res)) {
$query = “ALTER TABLE {$dbname}.`{$row[0]}` CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci”;
mysql_query($query);
$query = “ALTER TABLE {$dbname}.`{$row[0]}` DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci”;
mysql_query($query);
}
echo ‘all tables converted’;
php?>

Instead of using the google tranliteration, I got hold of a wordpress plugin for the same. Google Indic Transliteration

Now that the base ground is set, I will be starting my malayalam blog in full blast… Hurray!!!!d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);
